Varun Dhawan OPENS about dad David Dhawan’s threat to leave him on London streets: ‘I was dying …
Varun Dhawan recalls Dad David’s threat on the street of London. The reason behind David Dhawan’s step will shock you. Read on to know more.
Actor Varun Dhawan has been one of the biggest Bollywood fans ever since he was a kid. However, he shared a different bond with his father. David Dhawan was strict with him since childhood. In an interview with The Indian Express, Varun shared a funny memory from when he was in London for the premiere of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. The producers had arranged a limousine for him and his father, with giant posters of Amitabh and Govinda pasted on it. Varun, however, was far more excited about Kuch Kuch Hota Hai at the time. This led David Dhawan to jokingly warn him that he would leave him stranded on the streets of London if he didn’t focus on his father’s film.
What did David Dhawan say to Varun?
In the candid conversation with the Indian Express, Varun Dhawan said, “We were going through the streets of London in that limousine, with both of them making funny faces in the poster. But I was dying to watch Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and I didn’t even know Karan at that point in time. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai just felt like a cooler film, but my dad was like, ‘Stop it, I will leave you on the streets here’. I remember telling him you can’t treat children here like this, and my dad was like, ‘He is so badly behaved, why did I get him here?’
Why did David Dhawan never launch his son?
Despite being the son of one of Bollywood’s most successful directors, Varun revealed — in a Hindustan Times interview — that neither he nor his brother Rohit Dhawan received any special privileges. His father made it clear that they’d have to earn their place in the industry on their own. “Dad made it very clear he will not launch me or my brother. In fact, he has been often asked to launch other people’s children and he does not do that, too. So, it was a challenge for me. I had to work hard and keep on trying. I began my prep, took acting lessons and I was an assistant director for My Name is Khan (2010). This entire process of learning and working on myself helped me,” said Varun Dhawan.
In 2012, Varun made his Bollywood debut in Student of the Year, costarring with Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt. His career got off to a great start when the movie became a huge box office hit. Since then, he has consistently established himself in the field through perseverance and hard work.
