US budget deficit up 19% YoY in Jul despite rise in tariff revenue

For the first 10 months of this fiscal, customs duties were worth $135.7 billion, up by 116 per cent YoY.
As July this year had fewer business days than last year, adjusting for the difference would have increased receipts by about $20 billion, resulting in a deficit of about $271 billion, global newswires reported.
Net customs receipts in July grew to about $27.7 billion from about $7.1 billion in the corresponding month last year due to higher tariff rates.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told a TV channel recently that the growing US tariff revenue will make it tough for the Supreme Court to rule against Trump’s import taxes if a case related to the issue reaches the apex court.
