Jammu Hit-and-Run Horror: Manan Anand – a ‘spoiled brat’ booked for attempted murder, Still absconding
Jammu Tawi, July 29 — A horrifying hit-and-run incident in Jammu’s upscale Gandhi Nagar area has triggered widespread outrage, after a 20-year-old youth, Manan Anand, allegedly mowed down an elderly scooter rider with a Mahindra Thar, not once but twice, in broad daylight. The brutal act, caught on CCTV footage, has shaken the city and sparked demands for strict punishment.
The incident occurred on July 27, 2025, near Green Belt Park, a posh and a busy public area. In the bizarre visuals that have since gone viral, the rashly driven Thar is seen hitting the scooter rider coming from opposite direction, knocking the rider—identified as a 65-year-old local resident—to the ground. As stunned bystanders watch, the vehicle briefly halts and then reverses at speed, deliberately running over the victim again, before speeding away.
Initially, the Gandhi Nagar Police Station registered FIR No. 163/2025 under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). However, after public protests and social media outrage intensified, and after the footage clearly suggested intent, police invoked Section 109 of the BNS – attempt to murder.
On Sunday evening, Jammu Police confirmed via X (formerly Twitter):
“Following the Thar-scooty collision near Green Belt Park, Gandhi Nagar on 27.07.2025… the Thar was seized, its owner detained & hunt is on to nab the absconding driver.”
Police have since identified Manan Anand, a resident of Trikuta Nagar, as the driver of the Thar. He remains on the run, while law enforcement agencies are carrying out raids at possible hideouts. The Thar vehicle has been seized and sent for forensic and mechanical inspection, officials said.
Though not much is officially known about Manan’s background, unverified accounts on social media suggest he may be the son of a local businessman. His name has quickly become a flashpoint online, with many branding him a “privileged brat” and some as “a spoiled brat” and questioning whether his social standing is enabling him to evade arrest.
The victim, meanwhile, remains critically injured and is undergoing treatment at Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, according to hospital sources. Doctors have indicated that his condition is serious due to multiple fractures and internal injuries.
As the hunt for the accused intensifies, Jammu residents are demanding swift justice and stronger deterrents for reckless and criminal driving behavior, especially among affluent youth who misuse powerful vehicles as a symbol of their unquestionable clout and impunity.
