Bill and Hillary Clinton ‘could face jail time’ if they refuse to testify in Trump admin’s Jeffrey Epstein investigation – The US Sun

BILL and Hillary Clinton could face jail time if they refuse a subpoena regarding their involvement with Jeffrey Epstein.
The political power couple was issued a congressional subpoena due to their alleged involvement with the convicted sex offender.

This week, the Republican-run House Oversight Committee demanded interviews under oath for eight former top law enforcement officials.
While the couple hasn’t officially responded to the subpoena, if they refuse, they could be held in contempt of Congress.
It breaks federal law to defy a subpoena, which is a legal document requiring an individual to appear in court or hand over specific documents, information, or answer questions.
Denying this requirement could lead to fines as well as jailtime.

A report by the Congressional Research Service states that “contempt power is the means by which Congress responds to certain acts that in its view obstruct the legislative process.”
If the Clintons were to evade the subpoena, they would be interfering in the House Committee’s investigation, which would have serious consequences.
“If someone doesn’t comply with a subpoena…you can hold them in contempt of Congress,” House Oversight Committee chair James Comer told NewsNation.
“With a Republican attorney general, that’s something that I think that the Clinton legal team is going to think long and hard about.
“You’re not going to have a lot of sympathy, probably from the Trump DOJ, if the Clintons failed to comply with a bipartisan, congressionally approved subpoena, which is what that was.”
Steve Bannon, a former advisor to President Donald Trump, was found guilty on two counts of contempt of Congress in July 2022.
Bannon was convicted of defying subpoenas from the House of Representatives committee that investigated the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
He was sentenced to four months in prison for the charges.
EPSTEIN’S CONTACTS
Jeffrey Epstein, a wealthy financier, was convicted of sex trafficking women and underage girls, leading to his arrest in 2019.
The felon died in prison in 2019 after committing suicide.
The millionaire allegedly had contacts with many influential people, including Prince Andrew, the Clintons, and Donald Trump.
The Clintons had allegedly flown on Epstein’s private plane, known as the “Lolita Express” by the locals who were aware of the young girls coming to the private island of Little St. James.
President Clinton knows nothing about the terrible crimes Jeffrey Epstein pleaded guilty to in Florida some years ago, or those with which he has recently been charged in New York

The accusations come after prosecutors released a 118-page flight log as evidence in the trial of Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s associate, Newsweek reported.
Maxwell was charged with six counts, including sex trafficking of a minor, for which she pleaded not guilty.
She was found guilty of five of the six counts and was sentenced to 20 years in prison in June 2022.
The logs indicate that the Clintons flew on the plane in the 1990s, with Bill reportedly flying on it up to nine times.
However, the former president denied having any extended contact with the convicted felon.
“President Clinton knows nothing about the terrible crimes Jeffrey Epstein pleaded guilty to in Florida some years ago, or those with which he has been recently charged in New York,” a 2022 statement by Clinton read.
“He’s not spoken to Epstein in well over a decade, and has never been to Little St. James island.”
Bill Clinton’s office did not immediately respond to The U.S. Sun’s request for comment.
Prince Andrew was also named in the flight logs, having allegedly flown twice in February 1999.
The prince was accused of sexually assaulting one woman, Virginia Giuffre, on three separate occasions before she was 18 years old.
Andrew denies all allegations.
DIGGING DEEPER
The House Oversight Committee announced the subpoenas just two weeks after Maxwell was interviewed by DOJ officials.
The convicted felon’s interview with the DOJ is said to have been about the 100 individuals connected to Epstein.
Maxwell’s attorney said she answered “every single question” under limited immunity.
Maxwell, who has served three years of her 20-year sentence, was recently moved to a minimum-security facility in Texas.
The Bureau of Prisons in Texas confirmed to The U.S. Sun that Maxwell was in the custody of the Federal Prison Camp Bryan.
She is now in the same prison as Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, who was convicted of fraud and is serving an 11-year prison sentence.
