AP CM Naidu launches Stree Shakti scheme to provide free travel to women in APSRTC buses

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has on Friday formally launched `Stree Shakti’ scheme to provide free travel for women in in the buses of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) in Vijayawada.
The scheme is one of the Super Six welfare schemes promised by the ruling NDA Government in the State led by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu before the elections held last year.
‘Super Hit’
Speaking after the launch of the scheme, Naidu said the Super Six welfare schemes of the government had become a ‘super hit’ and the State was marching towards progress.
With a population of 5.25 crore in the State, there are 2.62 crore women among them. Under this scheme, women, girls, and transgenders belonging to the State have been provided the opportunity to travel free of charge from anywhere to anywhere in five categories of State-run buses being operated under PalleVelugu, Ultra Pallebelugu, City Ordinary, Express, Metro Express services.
This scheme does not apply to non-stop interstate bus services, contract carriage services, chartered services and package tours. The women travellers will be issued a zero fare ticket.
As per the Government estimates, each family in the state is expected to have a benefit of up to ₹4,000 per month while it will cost ₹162 crore per month, approximately ₹1,942 crore per year, benefiting about 26.95 lakh people daily in the State.
