War 2, the next epic in the YRF Spy Universe, is just eight days away from its premiere, and the film is already making significant noise at the overseas box office. The action-thriller, directed by Ayan Mukerji, brings together two of India’s biggest superstars, Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, for the first time, and the excitement is clearly translating into ticket sales.
According to the latest tracking data, War 2 has already amassed over USD 230,000 in advance bookings for its North American premieres. The film is showing strong daily growth, indicating rising audience anticipation. Based on this trajectory, trade analysts are projecting that the premiere day collections alone could land in the impressive vicinity of USD 900,000, setting the stage for a massive opening weekend.
Analyzing The Advance Booking Numbers
While these initial figures are robust, they also spark an interesting conversation about the film’s cross-cultural appeal. For a traditional Bollywood film, which typically does not have a major premiere culture, these advance numbers are considered quite strong. However, the presence of a top-tier Telugu star like Jr NTR brings different expectations, as the South Indian film industry has a well-established and powerful premiere market.
Some analysts suggest the numbers could have been even higher at this stage, pointing to a potential “confused marketing” strategy that may not have fully capitalized on its pan-India cast. The true test will come after the film’s release, as positive word-of-mouth from the Telugu-speaking audience could significantly boost its box office performance throughout its theatrical run.

Yash Raj Films is riding a wave of massive success following their recent blockbuster, Saiyaara, which reportedly netted the production house a profit of over Rs 275 crore. This gives them immense confidence heading into the release of War 2. However, comparing the advance sales of War 2 to other major releases, such as the upcoming Rajinikanth starrer Coolie, is not a straightforward “apples to apples” comparison.
Kollywood films are often front-loaded, earning a huge chunk of their lifetime gross on the opening day. In contrast, a well-received Bollywood film can have longer legs at the box office, often earning up to ten times its opening day number. The ultimate success of War 2 will be determined by its long-term performance and its ability to captivate audiences nationwide.
