Virgin River Creator’s Romantic Drama Rises on Netflix Charts
Another romantic drama from the creator of Virgin River climbs Netflix’s streaming charts not long after the release of season 3 on the platform. Netflix’s romance movies and TV shows have become a staple of the platform, with plenty of different stories being told across the genre. This includes everything from K-dramas to American productions, including some with massive longevity.
One of these is Virgin River, based on the series of novels by Robyn Carr. The story follows characters in Virgin River, California, a small town with plenty of personal drama for its ensemble cast. The show has seen much success on Netflix, with Virgin River season 7 and 8, alongside a prequel series, all in development from the streamer.
Now, though, Netflix reports that another show based on Carr’s books is now a success on the platform. According to their data, Sullivan’s Crossing season 3 is the Number 4 most-watched English-language TV show in the US for the week of August 11 to August 17, 2025. Globally, it comes in at Number 6 under the same category.
What Sullivan’s Crossing Earning Netflix Success Means For The Show
Sullivan’s Crossing follows Maggie Sullivan, a neurosurgeon who returns home to Nova Scotia after facing legal issues in Boston, Massachusetts. The series sees her connect with her estranged father, Sully, alongside a multitude of people from her past. Sullivan’s Crossing season 3 was added to Netflix on August 11 after airing on The CW in the US.
Sullivan’s Crossing airs on CTV in Canada, where it’s produced and filmed.
The series is a success beyond streaming services: Sullivan’s Crossing season 4 is set to premiere in 2026. However, its chart-topping Netflix success on the week of season 3’s arrival on the platform shows there’s a wider audience invested going beyond its initial primetime crowd. It may also signal good tidings for the series’ future as it adapts Carr’s books.
Our Take On Sullivan’s Crossing Season 3 Becoming A Netflix Success
Given how well Virgin River has performed on Netflix, it’s not surprising another series originating from Carr is also doing extremely well. Although viewership seems centered on the US, the fact it’s been able to climb to such high popularity in such a short amount of time shows just how many dedicated audience members it has on the platform.
Sullivan’s Crossing also makes for a good replacement for Virgin River, easing the wait for season 7 thanks to its similar style and structure. Carr’s romantic dramas are clearly a major part of Netflix’s repertoire, even if one of them doesn’t originate from the platform. The show succeeding after just one week elevates this sentiment around her work.
