Vijay Announces TVK’s Solo Debut in 2026
Actor Vijay, whose Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is preparing to contest its maiden assembly election next year, told a massive crowd in Madurai that people should consider him the candidate in every constituency. Although he will contest from Madurai East, he urged supporters across the state to vote for TVK, irrespective of who the nominee is.
At the party’s second state conference, marked by thunderous applause from thousands of fans, Vijay ruled out any alliance with the ruling DMK, the BJP, or their ally AIADMK, stressing that TVK will contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections alone. “I am a lion, marking my territory. The TVK is an unstoppable force here to dominate,” he said.
Vijay made clear his stance: the DMK is his “only political enemy” while the BJP is his “only ideological enemy.” He declared the 2026 election would be a direct fight between the DMK and TVK, positioning himself as a challenger to the state’s entrenched Dravidian parties.
The 51-year-old star also outlined his priorities — women’s safety, care for the elderly, welfare of children, and inclusive policies for farmers, youth, transgender people, and the differently abled. “TVK’s politics is real, emotional, and for the betterment of the people,” he said.
Touching on issues of popular sentiment, he demanded the return of Katchatheevu island to Tamil Nadu and the scrapping of the NEET medical entrance exam, challenging the Central government to act.
With this, Vijay follows the legacy of Tamil cinema icons who transformed into political leaders, but he has signalled a break from alliances and a focus on solo, people-first politics.
