Swasika, a 33-year-old Telugu film actress, was once given the role of Ram Charan’s mother in his film Peddi. Ram Charan is 40. Swasika is an award-winning actress best recognised for her work in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam films. She recently opened up about the situation in a discussion with Global Malayalam, saying, “I keep getting mother roles these days.”
She added, “What shocked me was the offer to play Ram Charan’s mother. It was for the big Telugu film Peddi, a massive-budget project. I was shocked and I said no.”
Actress explains why she turned down Peddi role
The actress explained why she rejected down the big offer, saying, “I don’t know how it would have turned out if I had accepted, but right now, I don’t feel the need to play Ram Charan’s mother. If the need arises later, I will think about it.”
Swasika cites Honey Rose’s example
She used the example of actress Honey Rose, 33, who played both mother and wife to actor Balakrishna in the film Veera Simha Reddy. The 65-year-old actor plays two roles in the film, the second of which features Shruti Haasan as his romantic interest.
She shared, “She (Honey) has done such a role and I am also receiving similar offers. I don’t know how it will look if I play a mother character, but I decided at that situation that it is not the right time to play the mother role of Ram Charan.”
Bollywood stars slam stereotypical mother roles
Actors Sheeba Chaddha and Shefali Shah have frequently expressed dissatisfaction with their roles in Bollywood and that they wish to break free from the stereotype.
In the 2005 movie Waqt, Shefali Shah, who gained recognition for her Netflix series Delhi Crime, portrayed Akshay Kumar’s mother. Akshay was 37 and Shefali was 32. In Zero, Sheeba Chaddha portrayed Shah Rukh Khan’s mother. Sheeba is his college junior. Shah Rukh Khan was 53 at the time, and Sheeba was 45.
