Square Enix’s Tactical RPG Now on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S

Square Enix has just released the port of an acclaimed RPG as a surprise, breaking its console exclusivity, meaning that you can now play it on other platforms. The developer is well-known for a plethora of RPG series, including the decades-long Final Fantasy franchise. Apart from it, Square Enix’s RPG franchises include Octopath Traveler, Dragon Quest, and many others. Now, another game in its roster has reached new platforms.

In a surprise release on August 20, Square Enix announced that Triangle Strategy, originally released for Nintendo Switch in early 2022, is now available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles, as well as the Microsoft Store. The announcement that the tactical RPG can be played on Sony and Microsoft consoles came through a trailer shared on the official Square Enix account on YouTube.

Even though it was playable on PC via Steam, Triangle Strategy remained a Nintendo console-exclusive for over three years. The end of the three-year console exclusivity is great news for tactical RPG fans who have wanted to play Square Enix’s latest venture in the genre, but haven’t been able to because of platform limitations. Triangle Strategy is compared to Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy Tactics in many ways, so fans of either may find comfort in the 2022 RPG now that it’s on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Even for players who haven’t meddled with tactical RPGs before, Triangle Strategy is a great game to play. It offers a large depth of strategic combat choices, which will resonate well with experienced players, but also makes it straightforward enough for newbies to catch on to it. The game’s narrative is also remarkable, telling a story about war between nations with twists that somewhat resemble Game of Thrones.
