The wait for details on S.S. Rajamouli‘s next magnum opus is slowly coming to an end. The globetrotting action-adventure, set to star superstar Mahesh Babu, has reportedly been given its official title. Sources close to the production have revealed that the film, tentatively known as SSMB29, is now titled Gen 63.
Unlike his previous blockbuster RRR, where the working title became the final name, Rajamouli has opted for a title that is deeply connected to the film’s core concept. The name Gen 63 is a direct reference to the protagonist’s lineage and sets the stage for a story that promises to be a unique blend of ancient mythology and futuristic action.
A Fusion of Mythology, Sci-Fi, and Indian Culture
The title Gen 63 is derived directly from Mahesh Babu’s character, who is said to be a man from the 63rd generation of a revered and sacred lineage. The plot will follow his character as he embarks on a mythical quest across the globe to find rare and powerful artifacts. The story is described as being deeply rooted in the epic Ramayana but infused with cutting-edge science fiction elements. Set partly in the ancient and spiritual city of Kashi, the film aims to celebrate India’s rich cultural history.
Rajamouli, often hailed as the James Cameron of India, is crafting a visually stunning world that combines mythology with futuristic storytelling. Mahesh Babu is expected to sport multiple looks throughout the film, reflecting his character’s evolution during the epic journey. This ambitious narrative promises to be a visual spectacle that pushes the boundaries of Indian cinema.
A Pan-India Cast With Global Ambitions
Adding to the massive scale of the project is its powerhouse cast. The film will feature global icon Priyanka Chopra, who is reportedly playing the role of an intrepid explorer. Joining her is Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran, who has been cast as the film’s formidable, high-tech antagonist. The inclusion of these top stars alongside Mahesh Babu confirms Rajamouli’s vision for a true pan-global cinematic event.
The next phase of this ambitious project is set to kick off soon. The entire cast and crew will travel to Tanzania on August 15 for a month-long, extensive shoot focusing on large-scale action and jungle sequences. The location was finalized after plans to shoot in Kenya were changed due to civil unrest.
Rajamouli Promises A “Never-Before-Seen” Reveal
Amidst rampant speculation, S.S. Rajamouli himself took to social media to address the immense anticipation. In a heartfelt note to “Cinema Lovers in India and around the world,” he acknowledged fans’ eagerness and thanked them for their patience. He explained that the secrecy is intentional, stating, “the story and scope of this film are so vast that I feel mere pictures or press conferences cannot do it justice.”
The director then dropped a major announcement. He revealed that the team is developing a special presentation to properly introduce the film’s world. “We are currently working on something to showcase the essence, depth, and immersive world we are creating,” he wrote, before confirming a timeline. “This will be unveiled in November 2025, and we are trying to make it a NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN reveal.”
