Pagglait Filmmaker Umesh Bist Takes the Helm of Khosla Ka Ghosla 2; Huma Qureshi No Longer Playing the Lead
Nearly two decades after Khosla Ka Ghosla became a beloved cult comedy, its legacy is set to continue. The original story, directed by Dibakar Banerjee, unfolded around Kamal Kishore Khosla (Anupam Kher), whose hard‑earned plot in Delhi is usurped by a shrewd builder, Kishan Khurana (Boman Irani). The film charmed audiences with its situational humor and grounded family dynamics, eventually earning cult status and even a re‑release in 2024. Now the reports are underway for the sequel.
New Director On Board: Umesh Bist to Helm Khosla Ka Ghosla 2
Recent reports confirm that Umesh Bist of Pagglait fame will direct Khosla Ka Ghosla 2. A source told Bollywood Hungama “Dibakar Banerjee directed Khosla Ka Ghosla; it was also his first directorial venture. However, he won’t be helming the sequel. Umesh Bist, who made the much‑loved Pagglait (2021), starring Sanya Malhotra, and who also directed the 2024 acclaimed Zee5 show Gyaarah Gyaarah, has stepped in as the director of Khosla Ka Ghosla 2.”.
The same source added “The makers are confident of Umesh Bist’s direction abilities. He managed to get the dark humour aspect correctly in Pagglait and also excelled in the emotional scenes. Khosla Ka Ghosla 2 also has wicked humour and a family angle and hence, they feel that Umesh will surely do justice.”.
Huma Qureshi Out, Boman Irani Confirmed to Reprise His Role
Earlier reports had suggested Huma Qureshi was in talks to lead the sequel and filming was expected to start by November 2025. However, the latest update clarifies “Huma Qureshi was in talks. However, the talk hasn’t materialized and she’s no longer doing the film. A hunt is on for the female lead.”.
Meanwhile, Boman Irani, reprising his role as Khurana, has officially confirmed his involvement. In an interview with Bombay Times on August 10, he said “I am very excited for the sequel. And for the first time and after a long time, I am fearful. We don’t want to make a weak effort to ruin a legacy. We have to work really hard to maintain that legacy of the film that it stood for.”.

At this stage, Khosla Ka Ghosla 2 has a proven director, a returning key cast member, and a script believed to uphold the original’s tone of wicked humour and family dynamics. Casting for the female lead is underway. Previous projections hinted that filming could begin by November 2025 and a 2026 release is possible. But with recent developments, those timelines may shift, and official confirmation is awaited.
