One dead, 39 injured as bus carrying pilgrims plunges into gorge in Samba

Samba: A bus carrying pilgrims to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine skidded off the Jammu-Pathankot highway and fell into a gorge in Samba district on Thursday, leaving one person dead and 39 others injured, officials said.

The accident occurred near Jatwal when the bus, travelling from Uttar Pradesh to Katra, suffered a tyre burst and lost control close to a small bridge.

The deceased was identified as Iqbal Singh (45), a resident of Amroha, Uttar Pradesh.

Rescue teams rushed to the spot, shifting the injured to Samba hospital. Seven critically injured passengers were later referred to AIIMS Vijaypur for advanced treatment. (Agencies)
