Netflix’s Adolescence replacement was released one year ago and has a nearly perfect critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. Adolescence was released earlier this year and became one of the most-watched Netflix series of all time before picking up 13 nominations at the upcoming 2025 Emmy Awards.

Adolescence tackles darkly relevant subject matter based on true events about teenage violence. While the 4-part series is possible to binge-watch in a single sitting, it may be best viewed in smaller doses. Additionally, Adolescence is a technical feat, consisting of four episodes that were all remarkably captured in a single take.

It Was A Massive Critical & Streaming Success

Baby Reindeer is essentially the 2024 version of Adolescence. Not only are their Rotten Tomatoes scores both nearly perfect, but they also have total runtimes of less than four hours. Above all, the areas of storytelling, acting, and technical aspects such as cinematography are all top-notch in both series.

Baby Reindeer was nominated for many of the same Emmy Awards as Adolescence this year, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series (which it won). Adolescence is currently projected to be the frontrunner in the same category at this year’s Emmys, which will take place on September 5, 2025.

The core similarity between Adolescence and Baby Reindeer is that there’s a mystery brewing beneath the surface that reveals unsettling truths.

Each series achieves a stark degree of immersion that takes viewers on a wide-ranging emotional journey. The core similarity between Adolescence and Baby Reindeer is that there’s a mystery brewing beneath the surface that reveals unsettling truths.

Baby Reindeer Is Not For The Faint Of Heart

It Deals With A Different Category Of Violence Than Adolescence

Per IMDb, Baby Reindeer is rated as “severe” in several categories such as Sex & Nudity, Profanity, Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking, and Frightening & Intense Scenes. As a TV-MA series, it will not be for everyone, especially viewers who are looking for a more casual and less intense type of series.

All things considered, Adolescence and Baby Reindeer are worth watching, even if it’s only a one-time thing. Their similar Emmy buzz and streaming popularity, as well as their nearly identical lengths and Rotten Tomatoes scores, make them almost feel like companion series on Netflix.
