More Actors Speak Out On Shanoo Sharma
A recent revelation by actress Isha Talwar about an unconventional audition has sparked a wider conversation in the film industry, with more actors now sharing their own bizarre experiences. The discussion centers around prominent casting director Shanoo Sharma and her alleged method of conducting public auditions, which some actors found unprofessional and daunting.
The controversy began when Talwar recounted a story from her early days as a newcomer, shedding light on the pressures faced by aspiring talents. Her story has since been corroborated by other industry members who have had similar encounters.
Isha Talwar’s “Confidence-Shattering” Experience
The conversation was ignited when Isha Talwar shared a story about being asked to perform a difficult and emotional audition in a very public setting. She revealed that Sharma requested her to enact an intense crying scene in the middle of Mia Cucina, a busy restaurant in Versova, Mumbai, while patrons were dining nearby. For a young actor trying to make her mark, the request was jarring.
Talwar described the experience as both “confusing” and “confidence-shattering.” She ultimately refused to perform the scene under such circumstances and believes she lost the role because of her decision. Her account quickly gained traction, opening the floodgates for others to share their stories about similar uncomfortable audition requests they had faced.
Bijou Thaangjam And Others Share Similar Stories
Following Talwar’s post, actor Bijou Thaangjam, known for his role in the Priyanka Chopra-starrer Mary Kom, came out in support. He recalled a nearly identical situation during his very first film audition, which was for the movie Byomkesh Bakshy. Thaangjam stated that he was asked to perform a scene “right in front of a café” on Yari Road. He wrote, “I wasn’t fluent in Hindi, not very confident, but hopeful to give it my best… I didn’t give in.”
Interestingly, Thaangjam’s story had a different outcome. Although he refused the public performance, he was called back a few days later for a proper studio audition. By that time, however, he had already secured his role in Mary Kom. The conversation has also drawn comments from other actors like Nidhi Subbaiah, who claimed she was “shunned” by Sharma’s assistants. These collective accounts highlight a pattern of unconventional audition methods that have left a lasting negative impression on several artists.
