The Philippines is intensifying efforts to ensure sufficient supply and keep prices of key commodities affordable despite recent weather disturbances, according to the department of economy, planning, and development (DEPDev).

The country’s headline inflation rate stood at 1.5 per cent in August—higher than July’s 0.9 per cent.

He emphasised the importance of closely monitoring the country’s weather outlook due to its potential impact on agricultural production.

He also cited how La Nina conditions, which may develop from September to December, could lead to flooding and crop damage in high-risk areas.
