KCA gears up to link cricket with tourism to boost Kerala’s economy
Kerala Cricket Association is gearing up to link cricket with tourism in a bid to boost the state’s economy. The initiative, dubbed as ‘Cricket Tourism’, aims to position Kerala as a premier destination where sports and travel converge, attracting cricket fans from across the country.
KCA is working closely with the State’s tourism department to develop comprehensive programmes that go beyond the boundary lines of the game. The goal is to turn cricket into a holistic cultural experience; merging sport, entertainment and Kerala’s scenic charm, to drive tourism and local economic activity.
The association plans to integrate entertainment programmes that encourage visitors to extend their stay. Talks are underway with hotels and restaurants to offer special packages during the KCL season, further incentivizing fan travel and regional spending.
By strategically aligning match schedules with Kerala’s peak tourism months, the KCA hopes to attract a wider range of visitors. Travel agencies will be encouraged to curate ‘Cricket Packages’ that bundle match tickets with stays, sightseeing and cultural experiences.
KCA President Jayesh George said that preparations are already in motion to expand KCL matches beyond Thiruvananthapuram, with the goal of hosting games in other districts and venues in the coming years.
“KCA’s vision goes beyond the cricket field. We want to create a complete experience for fans and establish Kerala as a one-stop destination for cricket lovers,” said KCA Secretary Vinod S Kumar.
Both the sports and tourism sectors are optimistic. If successful, the Cricket Tourism project is expected to elevate Kerala’s profile in the global sports tourism arena”, he added.
