J&K: Landslide claims two lives near Shiv Cave in Mahore
Reasi, July 23 – In a tragic incident, two people lost their lives in a landslide near Shiv Gufa in Badora area of Mahore tehsil during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. The victims were reportedly sleeping in a tent near the cave when debris from a nearby hill collapsed onto their shelter, burying them alive.
The deceased have been identified as Rashpal Singh (26), son of Soba Ram, a resident of Tuli Kalawan in Chassana, Reasi district, and Ravi Kumar (23), son of Parshottam Kumar from Chenani, Udhampur district. Rashpal Singh was reportedly working as a JCB operator, and both were at the site to assist with preparations for a religious event scheduled at Shiv Gufa Badora.
Local authorities rushed to the scene following the incident. Police teams recovered the bodies and have begun further investigations. The sudden landslide has raised concerns over the safety of makeshift accommodations in hilly and landslide-prone areas, particularly during the monsoon season.
This unfortunate event serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by those working or camping in vulnerable terrains, especially amid ongoing heavy rainfall in the region.
