New Delhi, Aug 18: The Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill 2025, aimed at decriminalizing minor offences to promote ease of living and doing business, was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said the Bill seeks to strengthen trust-based governance and improve the business climate.

The legislation proposes amendments to over 350 provisions across various laws. It is part of the government’s ongoing reforms, following the Jan Vishwas Act, 2023, which had decriminalized 183 provisions under 42 central Acts administered by 19 ministries and departments.

After its introduction, the Bill was referred to a Select Committee of the Lok Sabha, which has been directed to submit its report by the first day of the next parliamentary session.

The House witnessed uproar as Opposition members protested over the voter roll revision in Bihar and other issues. Amid the ruckus, Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 2 PM.

Earlier reforms under the 2023 Act had replaced imprisonment with fines in some provisions, while in others both imprisonment and fines were converted into penalties. The government said the new Bill continues this effort to simplify regulations and reduce compliance burden. (Agencies)
