Film Gets ‘A’ Certificate And 29 Voluntary Cuts Including Gopal Mukhopadhyay’s mention In Several Scenes
With just a week to go for its release, the buzz around Vivek Agnihotri‘s next hard-hitting film, The Bengal Files, is getting stronger. Following the massive success of The Kashmir Files, audiences are eager to see what he brings to the screen next. Now, exclusive details about the film’s runtime and its journey with the censor board have been revealed, and they promise an intense cinematic experience.
The film, which stars veterans like Mithun Chakraborty, Darshan Kumaar, and Pallavi Joshi, is set to hit theatres on September 5th.
A Massive Runtime And An ‘A’ Certificate
One of the most surprising details is the film’s epic length. The Bengal Files clocks in at a massive 3 hours, 24 minutes, and 32 seconds. To put that in perspective for movie lovers, it is one minute longer than Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal and four minutes longer than the theatrical cut of Pushpa 2. A runtime this long suggests that Agnihotri is telling a very detailed and deeply researched story.
Adding to the intensity, the film has been passed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with an ‘A’ certificate, meaning it is intended for an adult audience. This combination of a long runtime and an adult rating makes it clear that the film will be a no-holds-barred, unfiltered watch.
The film’s path to certification involved a few modifications. It was reviewed by the CBFC’s Revising Committee, which asked for some changes to be made. Notably, the makers were asked to remove any ‘contemptuous’ words used against the transgender community and replace them with more appropriate terms. Other directives included replacing pictures of some prominent personalities.
Makers Voluntarily Remove A Key Name
What’s even more interesting is that the filmmakers themselves recently made a whopping 29 voluntary changes to the film, just days before its release. On August 26th, they approached the CBFC to make these edits. The most significant of these was the removal of the name “Gopal Mukhopadhyay” from multiple scenes in the film. This very specific and repeated removal is sure to create curiosity about the film’s subject matter and its connection to real-life events.
