Mumbai, Aug 9:  The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police has found that IPS officer Rashmi Karandikar failed to disclose a ₹2.64 crore transfer from her estranged husband, Purushottam Chavan — an accused in major cheating and Income Tax refund fraud cases.

EOW officials said the amount, sent to Karandikar’s account in 2017–18, was invested in intra-day share trading, resulting in losses. The transactions came to light after investigators analysed Karandikar’s asset declarations and found no mention of the transfer.

Karandikar, currently posted as SP/Administration Officer in Civil Defence and Home Guard, claimed her husband managed her bank accounts. The EOW has sought her income declaration details from the Director General of Police’s office.

Chavan, accused of cheating individuals out of ₹32 crore, was earlier arrested by EOW and is also facing Enforcement Directorate charges in a ₹263 crore Income Tax refund fraud.
