DC’s Darkest Show in Under 6 Hours

DC has always been known as having a more edgy and dark tone, but the most effective example of this can be binged in its entirety in under six hours. Before the DCU set out to reshape and redefine what DC stories look like on the big and small screens, many DC shows leaned into their dark source material.

Shows like The Sandman, Watchmen, Titans, Arrow, and many more were unafraid to explore aspects of horror, terror, and brutality in a way that pushed the envelope. However, despite all of these shows exploring the dark side of superheroes, they all pale in comparison to one live-action series from 2022.

DC’s Darkest Show Isn’t The Series You Might Expect

Peacemaker stands out as the clear top choice for DC’s darkest show, even if it isn’t the one that immediately comes to mind. From the broody and brutal, to the downright horrifying and shocking, Peacemaker never shies away from taking the story to its darkest and most intense conclusion.

It blends humor into the mix to soften the intensity, but that doesn’t erase the fact that Peacemaker season 1 sees children murdered, a white supremacist uprising, vigilante brutality against a variety of victims and criminals, and an alien invasion story with all the gruesome and gory details.

Peacemaker season 1 follows Christopher Smith after his introduction in The Suicide Squad, and the story wonderfully captures how he tries to make changes from being the thoughtless and violent man who shot Rick Flag Jr. dead, and competes with Bloodsport to wipe out an entire village of Resistance fighters.

All of which adds up to making this light-hearted goofy series into the darkest show that DC has ever had a hand in making.

Peacemaker Takes Just Over 5 & A Half Hours To Watch Right Now

At present, Peacemaker season 1 consists of just eight episodes, with each coming in at around 40 to 50 minutes long. That means that the entire series could realistically be binged in a single day, taking about five and a half hours to get through the entire series.

It is important to note that Peacemaker season 2 will premiere on August 21st, but considering how short season 1 is, it shouldn’t be all that challenging to catch up ahead of the next season’s release. And considering this series perfectly balances comedy and tragedy, with incredibly dark themes, it’s well worth the time it takes to watch it.

Peacemaker is a unique outing for a DC TV show, but it contains all the elements from DC that make them stand out. From the broody, serious moments, to the lighter comic relief, it brings together some of the best parts of DC stories. And, of course, it’s deliciously dark in a way that DC stories manage to perfectly embrace.
