Coolie Gets ‘A’ Certificate – CBFC Spares ALL Violent Scenes, Mutes ‘B******d’, Makers Add Special 50-Year Tribute To Rajinikanth
With less than a week until its theatrical debut, the anticipation for Coolie is reaching a fever pitch. The film, directed by the acclaimed Lokesh Kanagaraj, marks a significant milestone as it is superstar Rajinikanth‘s first film in 36 years to receive an ‘A’ (Adults Only) certificate. The official report from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) is now out, revealing exactly what audiences can expect from the action-packed entertainer.
CBFC Verdict: Violence Spared – Muted Dialogues
Fans of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s raw and intense filmmaking style can rejoice. By opting for an ‘A’ certificate, the makers of Coolie have successfully avoided any cuts to the film’s violent and action-heavy sequences. This ensures that the director’s vision remains uncompromised, promising a gritty and visceral cinematic experience that lives up to the hype. The decision allows the film to portray its action scenes with the intensity they were designed for, a major selling point for enthusiasts of the genre.
While the action was left untouched, the Examining Committee of the CBFC did request minor audio modifications. An abusive word, ‘B******d,’ has been muted in the final cut. Additionally, the dialogue ‘Thiruvannamalaikku Arogara’ was asked to be replaced. Other standard directives included modifying liquor brand names shown on screen and incorporating a disclaimer for scenes depicting alcohol consumption. The makers were also asked to provide the necessary NOC for using songs from other films.
A Special Addition: Runtime Extended for a Tribute
After receiving the censor certificate on August 4 with an initial runtime of 2 hours, 49 minutes, and 57 seconds, the filmmakers made a voluntary addition. A special 25-second animated visual celebrating 50 glorious years of Rajinikanth in the film industry has been added to the film. This tribute is a significant value-add for fans, honoring the legacy of the legendary superstar in his latest outing.
Furthermore, the makers enhanced the film’s soundscape by inserting several new songs into already-certified visuals. These include the rap tracks ‘Music Thumbing‘ and ‘Ladies And Gentleman‘, as well as the songs ‘You’ve Got That Look‘ and ‘All You Mobsters‘. These changes were purely auditory and did not alter the duration of the scenes themselves. With the addition of the 25-second tribute, the final, locked runtime of Coolie now stands at 2 hours, 50 minutes, and 22 seconds, all set for its grand worldwide release.
