Collectors of three Odisha districts told to evacuate people in low-lying areas
Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has directed the collectors of Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore districts to evacuate residents from low-lying areas and begin relief operations as floodwaters continued to rise, a source said Saturday.
Two senior engineers from the Water Resources Department have been deployed to the Subarnarekha and Baitarani river basins to assist in managing the situation, which has been exacerbated by heavy rainfall in Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts, the source added.
According to official sources, water levels in the Subarnarekha, Jalaka and Baitarani rivers are rising steadily.
The State Flood Control Cell under the Water Resources Department is operating round the clock, monitoring the situation closely.
Chief engineers and basin managers of the Subarnarekha-Budhabalang, Mahanadi-Brahmani-Baitarani and Baitarani systems are coordinating field-level responses in collaboration with district administrations.
