AR Murugadoss Reveals He First Pitched Madharaasi Protagonist Role To Shah Rukh Khan
As the release of the highly anticipated film Madharaasi draws near, director AR Murugadoss has dropped a major input about the film’s origins. In a recent interview, the celebrated filmmaker revealed that the protagonist’s character, now played by Sivakarthikeyan, was first pitched to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan.
The film, which is set to release on September 5, 2025, could have been a massive collaboration between two of Indian cinema’s biggest names. This revelation has sent a wave of excitement through fan communities, who are now imagining what that version of the film might have looked like.
The Story Behind The SRK Pitch
During a promotional interview, AR Murugadoss opened up about the initial stages of the film’s development, which began around seven or eight years ago. He explained that before the full script was written, he had developed the lead character and pitched the idea directly to Shah Rukh Khan. “I just had the protagonist character written and I pitched it to Shah Rukh sir 7 years ago. He was really interested with the character,” Murugadoss shared.
However, the dream collaboration never moved forward. The director explained, “But after that, I had to do the follow-up process with no response from the other end. I too felt it would be futile just for him to keep approaching him.” Eventually, Murugadoss moved on, and the role ultimately went to Sivakarthikeyan.
What To Expect From Madharaasi
While the plot details are still under wraps, AR Murugadoss has given fans a hint of what to expect, and it sounds massive. He described the upcoming film as a powerful combination of two of his biggest blockbusters: the gripping script of Ghajini and the high-octane action of Thuppakki. This suggests that audiences are in for a smart, intense thriller with spectacular action sequences, a style Murugadoss is famous for. Now, with the versatile Sivakarthikeyan in the lead, expectations are sky-high.
A Pan-India Film With A Powerhouse Team
Madharaasi is being mounted as a major pan-India release. The film will be released in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi, with the Hindi version titled Dil Madharaasi. The star cast also includes talented actors like Biju Menon, Vikranth, and Shabeer Kallarakkal in important roles. Adding to the film’s massive appeal is its technical team, which features chart-topping music composer Anirudh Ravichander, cinematographer Sudeep Elamon, and editor A Sreekar Prasad.
