Renukaswamy murder case: Actor-politician Ramya hails SC's move to cancel Darshan's bail, says 'justice will be...'

Actor and former MP Ramya, aka Divya Spandana, hailed the Supreme Court’s decision on Thursday to cancel the bail that was earlier given to actors Darshan and Pavithra Gowda in connection with Renukaswamy’s murder case. Ramya said the court’s ruling is a strong reminder that justice is the same for everyone.

What did Ramya post?

In an Instagram Story, Ramya stated, ‘The SC judgment today on setting aside bail to Darshan and others in the Renukaswamy murder case sends out a strong message — ALL ARE EQUAL BEFORE LAW. To the rest of us, I’d like to say – follow due process, keep faith in the justice system – It’s long and hard, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Do not take law into your own hands, justice will be served. Most importantly, stay true to your conscience.’

What did the Supreme Court do?

Earlier, the Supreme Court, with a bench made up of Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan, cancelled the bail order that the Karnataka High Court had given. They did this because they found some serious problems with how the procedure was handled. The Supreme Court told the authorities to arrest all those accused, including Darshan and Pavithra Gowda, right away. They also told the lower court to speed up the trial.

Darshan and Pavithra Gowda are among a number of people charged in connection with the killing of 33-year-old Renukaswamy. Renukaswamy was allegedly killed because he sent offensive messages to Pavithra Gowda. According to police reports, Renukaswamy was taken by force, held in a shed in Bengaluru for three days in June 2024, tortured, and then his body was found in a drain nearby.
