Nintendo Direct Rumors Reach Fever Pitch After Official Update

There have been a lot of rumors about a July 2025 Nintendo Direct event, and the speculation has hit an all-time high, as Nintendo has provided an update of sorts on its official website. The last two Directs we got were for an impressive showing of Donkey Kong Bananza in June, and Mario Kart World before that in April. The next Direct may be very soon, if these new rumors come true.

Posted on Nintendo’s website, the Nintendo eShop will be undergoing maintenance for around 90 minutes on July 31. Routine maintenance normally wouldn’t mean much, if anything, but, as pointed out by some fans, like OBE1plays YouTube on X, Nintendo has a history of taking the eShop down for maintenance right before a Nintendo Direct event.

Nintendo Has Scheduled Maintenance This Week

This Could Be A Signal For A Nintendo Direct

Nintendo’s scheduled maintenance is set for the early morning hours, too, and most of the Nintendo Direct shows are in the morning ET. According to Nintendo, both the Switch 1 and Switch 2 will be affected by the maintenance, and network services will be unavailable. Under the Network Services header, the bullet point reads: “Acquisition of stage information, etc.”

July Could Be A Major Month For Switch 2

Just over a month after Nintendo’s new console launched, rumors are suggesting July will end up being a huge month for its upcoming slate of games.

It’s been speculated for a while that a July Nintendo Direct was on the table, and the current Direct rumors are suggesting Metroid Prime 4 will finally get a release date, after months of uncertainty, and a recent rating for the game in South Korea was finalized. There could also be a focus on third-party titles, instead, but all of this is just speculation for now.

Nintendo Has A Fairly Predictable History

As fans like spyshyguy on X have pointed out, the scheduled maintenance is probably the best indicator we’ve gotten in a while that a July Direct could happen. Additionally, reliable leaker Nate the Hate stated during a podcast episode a couple of weeks ago that a July Nintendo Direct was likely, but Nintendo didn’t want to release it before the release of Donkey Kong Bananza.

If history repeats itself, as it often does with Nintendo, it seems pretty likely that a Direct will get announced in the next day or two. All of this information is, of course, just rumors at the moment, and nothing has been confirmed by Nintendo itself, but it wouldn’t be out of character for Nintendo to announce and host a Nintendo Direct this week.
