Ice-T has revealed that his Law & Order: Special Victims Unit character will get badly hurt during season 27’s premiere on September 25 on NBC. After premiering in September 1999, Law & Order: SVU has become one of the longest-running shows ever. Law & Order: SVU focuses on the New York City detective unit, including Mariska Hargitay’s legendary character, Olivia Benson, which investigates sexually-based crimes.

After Law & Order: SVU’s season 26 ending involved a character getting a promotion and a huge investigation, the show’s return won’t be so positive. Instead, one fan favorite member of Law & Order: SVU’s cast of characters will wind up suffering during the upcoming season premiere. Ice-T has hinted at what his character will go through.

Ice-T spoke to People about Law & Order: SVU’s season 27 premiere. During that discussion, Ice-T revealed that his character was going to be so badly hurt during the premiere that he will be hospitalized. Ice-T even revealed that his character won’t appear in an episode due to the severity of his injuries. Check out Ice-T’s comments below:

“In the first episode, something bad happens to me and I end up in the hospital. I wasn’t in the second episode, but I’m back in the third—they move us around.”

As his conversation with People continued, Ice-T revealed something fascinating about how Law & Order: SVU is produced. The actor explained that most Law & Order: SVU’s actors don’t know what will happen to their characters ahead of time. While explaining that to the outlet, Ice-T described how badly his Law & Order: SVU character will be hurt.

“The thing about SVU is, we have no idea where it’s going. Mariska [Hargitay] is a producer, so she kind of knows where the boat’s being steered. But until we get a script, we don’t know. When I showed up for the first episode, I’m like, ‘Oh, I’m getting my ass beat? Really?’ In the past, it was like, ‘Oh, you’re gonna get married this year.’ I’m like, ‘Married to who?’ ‘Right—Phoebe.’ I was like, ‘I’m in, I guess.’”

What This Means For Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’s Season 27 Premiere

After Ice-T joined Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’s cast during the second season, Fin Tutuola became a beloved character. Now that fans have watched Fin on their TVs for 25 years, they don’t only like his character, they are invested in him too. As a result, there is no doubt that Fin suffering injuries as severe as Ice-T described will be shocking for viewers.

While Ice-T’s character being injured will make Law & Order: SVU’s season 27 premiere memorable, the storyline will have more effect than that. Since Ice-T revealed that he is absent from the upcoming season’s second episode, fans can anticipate missing his character.

Unfortunately for people who work for the police in real life, they have a dangerous job. While TV shows may exaggerate how regularly police officers are in peril, it makes sense for a character like Fin Tutuola to suffer injuries in the line of duty.

Still, based on the severity of the injuries that Ice-T was hinting that his character will suffer, it will be fascinating to see what leads to his injuries. That alone makes Law & Order: SVU‘s season 27 premiere seem like a must-see for any of the show’s fans.
