Star Wars Introduces A New Leader For the Knights Of Ren, And She Wants To Kill Kylo

Warning! Warning! Spoilers ahead for Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #8!

Star Wars has officially upgraded the Knights of Ren with its newest member, who will seemingly make a powerful adversary for Kylo Ren, as she tries to usurp control of the Force-wielding faction from him. Fans might know her coup attempt is destined to fail, but they’re still thrilled the Knights are getting more attention in Star Wars lore.

Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #8, written by Charles Soule, with art by Stefano Raffaele, will shed light on “the dark secrets” of the Knights, but Kylo’s most pressing concern will be his new rival: Tava Ren.

Legacy continues to shed light on Kylo’s eventual return to the light side, suggesting Tava could play a small but critical role.

Star Wars fans have known about Tava Ren for several months now, thanks to the advanced previews for Legacy of Vader #8. However, now her role in the series has become more clear: she will be the latest antagonist to push Kylo Ren further down the path toward his Rise of Skywalker redemption arc.

As the synopsis for Legacy of Vader #8 puts it:

THE KNIGHTS OF REN RETURN WITH A NEW LEADER — TAVA REN! In order to control the Knights of Ren, TAVA must KILL KYLO REN! Learn the dark secrets of this mysterious group of villains! What subterfuge will this new warrior use to get what she wants?

This makes it clear that Tava’s intentions toward Kylo are unequivocally deadly. Readers know he survives, of course, while Tava doesn’t appear as one of the Knights featured in Rise, hinting at the expected outcome of their battle, though the series could still serve up a swerve.

That is, there is room to maneuver in the details. Tava Ren might not manage to kill Kylo, but it’s entirely possible she will also survive their encounter, in order to appear in subsequent stories. Even if she doesn’t, she still has an extensive character history that Star Wars fans will be eager to have fleshed out.

In the lead up to the Sequel Trilogy, the concept of the “Knights of Ren,” in Kylo’s service, was one of the most intriguing additions to Disney’s rebooted Star Wars canon. Yet over ten years later, the scope of their involvement in the franchise has been surprisingly limited, especially considering how positively they were received by fans.

The Knights featured in just one Sequel film, and only a limited set of Extended Universe appearances. Legacy of Vader is a huge step for the Knights of Ren. It makes them the most integral to Kylo’s story that they have been so far, upgrading their status in Star Wars lore while giving them a killer new member.
