The iconic action-comedy Baadshah completes 26 years today, and the film remains a fan favourite for its perfect mix of humour, action, and Shah Rukh Khan’s unforgettable charm. On this special occasion, the film’s action director, Moses Fernandes, shared some exclusive behind-the-scenes stories that show just how dedicated SRK was on set.

From doing risky stunts himself to patiently giving over 30 retakes for one shot, these memories give a glimpse into the hard work that went into making the blockbuster film.

The Stunt Amrish Puri Didn’t See Coming

One of the most memorable stories involves the late legendary actor, Amrish Puri. Fernandes recalled a scene where SRK’s character had to snatch a gun from Amrish Puri and do a somersault over him. Before the take, Amrish Puri was worried about how the stunt would happen.

“Shah Rukh bhai told me, ‘Masterji, don’t tell him anything and just take the shot,’” Fernandes laughed. “So, Amrish Puri didn’t know what Shah Rukh was going to do. He just did the somersault and we took the shot. It turned out to be very well.” This trick helped capture a genuine and priceless reaction on screen.

32 Retakes For One Perfect Shot

Shah Rukh Khan’s reputation as a perfectionist is well-known, and Fernandes shared a story that proves it. For a scene where SRK had to jump in the air and pull a gun from his leg, the actor insisted on doing it without any safety cables.

The stunt was difficult, and it took 32 retakes to get it right. “I suggested we can shoot it in a different way. But Shah Rukh bhai said that he will do it himself,” Fernandes remembered. “That guy is so hardworking… He was like, ‘Main kar ke rahoonga’ (I will definitely do it).”

The Film That Ended A TV Show

In a surprising and funny revelation, Fernandes shared how Baadshah was the reason a popular TV show went off the air. He was the action director for Puneet Issar’s show, Hindustani. When he got the offer for Baadshah, Puneet encouraged him to take the big film opportunity.

When Fernandes asked how the show would continue, Puneet said he would figure it out. “But he stopped the serial right then,” Fernandes said. Puneet later told him that they couldn’t find anyone else who could direct the various kinds of fight scenes the show required.
