Bollywood star Govinda is making headlines again, but not because of his films or dancing skills, but for his personal controversies. Fans are shocked by his divorce rumors from his wife, Sunita. According to reports, Sunita had accused the actor of adultery, cruelty, and desertion, sending a storm of speculation. Things came into the limelight after Sunita removed Govinda’s last name from her social media profile, giving the impression that their marriage had finally hit rock bottom. But intervening in the controversy, Govinda’s manager, Shashi, denied all the allegations and gave a different account of the couple’s relationship.
What did Govinda’s marriage say about the couple’s ugly fight?
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Shashi defended the actor, terming the allegations as baseless. He clarified that as is the case with any married couple. He said, “Govinda jaisa insaan kisi par haath nahin utha sakta, chilla nahin sakta toh yeh cruelty jaise claims aa kaha se rahe hain? I have worked closely with him aur woh insan bilkul aisa nahin hai jaisi image unki ab banai jaa rahi hai. Yeh sab mudde past ki kahaniya hai jinn par dono miya biwi- sath mein kaam bhi kar rahe hai.”
Shashi further said that much of the controversy started with past events that the media were bringing up, despite the couple having moved on with their lives and even collaborating professionally. Ironically, Shashi further noted that even though the legal case was ongoing, neither Govinda nor Sunita have been attending court routinely. For him, Sunita only appeared once to file the case, while Govinda has largely avoided hearings.
What did Govinda’s close friend say about ugly fight?
This statement came as a relief to many of Govinda’s admirers, who hoped that the couple’s differences were not as disturbing as portrayed. But not everyone agrees with Shashi’s version. A close friend of the couple admitted to witnessing violent fights between the two over the years. The source claimed that though their arguments sometimes turned heated, separation was never really on the cards. He said, “Yes, they (Govinda-Sunita) have their fights. Yes, violent fights. I have been a first-hand witness to some of them. But they will never separate permanently. After fights, Govinda shifts to his other bungalow and returns when things cool down.”
Govinda and Sunita’s divorce rumours
Meanwhile, reports state that Sunita had filed for a divorce in December 2024 on grounds of adultery, cruelty, and desertion under Section 13 of the Hindu Marriage Act. Court-mandated counselling sessions have been going on since June 2025, and the case is still pending trial.
