Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight

Many new details surrounding Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight are appearing, showing off aspects of gameplay that answer many player questions. Not only has some new footage shown off more combat systems, but there have also been snippets of collectibles and hints at other features sure to entice fans of the Gotham superhero.
A playable demo at Gamescom 2025 for Lego Batman: LotDK has shown off the first level of the game, showing off a variety of mechanics Batman utilizes to take down Gotham’s criminals. Although just from a Pre-Alpha build, this foundational piece reveals a lot of core systems. This includes many that will be familiar to those who’ve followed The Dark Knight’s adventures in games before.
Lego Batman: Legacy Of The Dark Knight Release Date
No Announced Time Despite Plenty Of Polish
As of right now, there is no official release date for the Lego Batman game, only a “Coming Soon” timeframe on the Steam page for the title. However, with how polished the Pre-Alpha build looks, I wouldn’t be surprised if an official launch day was announced soon.
PC players on Steam can Wishlist this title now, an action that became available after the initial trailer dropped. Console players can do something similar, activating notifications to be informed when the release date does get announced, which will likely happen in the next few months.
Arkham-Style Gameplay Seems To Be Prevalent In Lego Batman
Combine Stealth, Gadgets, And Free-Flowing Combat Against Gotham’s Underworld
Many fans are noticing how Lego Batman: LotDK borrows many gameplay elements from the Batman: Arkham series, at least from the initial looks. The greatest indication of this is the combat itself, which is far different from Lego games of the past. In multiple instances, Batman is shown to chain combos together with different attack strikes, while also being able to counter incoming attacks from his enemies.
Batman’s combat and exploration also seem to feature gadgets used prominently in the Arkham series as well. Batman can use his grappling hook to trip up enemies or his Batarangs to stun them, adding to the free-flowing nature of the game’s combat. Players may also apply an explosive gel onto surfaces to discover hidden areas, a feature that will have almost the same animations as the Arkham games did.
Despite many vehicles being in other Lego tie-in games, the ones in Lego Batman: LotDK seem to have far more control, likely to allow for more freedom in world traversal.
This is the exact same structure that defined Batman: Arkham‘s combat across multiple titles, but the similarities don’t stop there. From the trailer, it looks like Batman can freely explore Gotham in an open world, using his suit to glide throughout the city and grappling hook to launch himself into the air. Once again, this is straight out of Arkham City or Arkham Knight.
Further footage from the Pre-Alpha build also shows Batman using narrow vents to hide from enemies before using silent takedowns to knock them out for studs. These stealth mechanics also emulate Batman: Arkham, down to how the shown level was designed. Parts of the environment can be explored by the player to give Batman the best vantage points to take out enemies one by one without being noticed.
The key difference from Batman: Arkham titles is how Lego Batman: LotDK keeps many Lego traditions. Some obstacles can only be solved by building the right thing for the job, emphasized by a more destructible environment. Furthermore, there is a two-player local co-op confirmed, which is something the Arkham games never had.

Lego Batman Story & Level Details
Experience A Unique Campaign That Highlights Batman’s Greatest Moments
The Pre-Alpha build shown for Lego Batman: LotDK featured an opening level unique to the game, where Batman has to stop the Red Hood and his henchmen. This tells the origin of The Joker, seen in iconic comic stories like The Killing Joke. However, based on other information, it seems players will follow Batman’s story throughout multiple forms of media.
According to the official website, players will “embark on Bruce Wayne’s epic journey…featuring a story-led campaign from origin to legend, bringing together iconic moments from the Caped Crusader’s 86-year history in film, television, comic books, and games.” This seems to indicate an original tale that follows multiple Batman stories, from comic classics to the plots of iconic movies featuring the character.
Within the announcement trailer, players can see The Penguin car chase scene from The Batman (2022) as well as Tom Hardy’s Bane from The Dark Knight Rises, indicating multiple film plots being followed.
As Batman takes on infamous villains from his rogue’s gallery, he’ll be able to explore Gotham freely in an open-world. This creates massive level designs, where multiple collectibles have already been seen in gameplay footage. With a certain question-mark-themed villain already confirmed and heavy Arkham inspiration, perhaps The Riddler’s notorious trophies will also make an appearance.
Levels are set to include puzzles, challenges, and hidden secrets at every turn at various iconic locations in Gotham City. While online co-op isn’t present, local multiplayer will allow you and a friend to explore the world of Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight together, discovering every aspect of one of fiction’s most recognized superheroes.
