Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin will lead a State investment delegation to UK, Germany later this month in a bid to pitch the State’s strengths to the European countries, TN Minister for Industries, Investment Promotions and Commerce in the Government of Tamil Nadu, TRB Rajaa said here on Wednesday.
The CM will be visiting the countries in the run up to the TN Rising Europe investor conclave, he added, noting that Tamil Nadu wants to be the first in India to take advantage of the new Free Trade Agreement with the United Kingdom.
Speaking on the US tariffs, Rajaa mentioned that the TN government stands with the Centre on the issue. This is a country’ s issue and we will be one as a country, that is the party’s stance, he said. He added that the Union government should consult critical States such as Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu on how to navigate the issue.
Addressing media persons, Rajaa also noted that Tamil Nadu has achieved a 77 per cent conversation rate on all its investment MoUs signed since 2022, up from the 72 per cent declared during the last assembly session. “Furthermore, 80 per cent of the MoUs at TN Global Investment Meet have been grounded and progressing well,” he added.
The government had recently announced 41 investment Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed as part of the Thoothukudi edition of the TN Rising Investors Conclave. These MoUs are expected to fetch the State a total investment of ₹32,554 crore and also create 49,845 job opportunities. It has also planned regional investor conclaves in Hosur and Coimbatore.
Designed to catalyse growth in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, the TN Rising conclaves are expected to drive growth of local micro small and medium enterprises and help them become integral parts of global and domestic supply chains by facilitating increased market access, technology partnerships, and capacity building. Hosur and Coimbatore are among other destinations set to host future editions of TN Rising conclaves.
The GIM held in January 2024 witnessed investment commitments totalling ₹6,64,180 crore with direct employment opportunities for 14,54,712 persons and total employment for 26,90,657 persons. The diverse investments came from semiconductors, GCCs, EVs, footwear and textiles.
