BIS cracks down on Flipkart, Meesho in Vijayawada for selling non-certified products

Prem Sajani Patnala, Director & Head of BIS (Vijayawada)
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has cracked down on e-commerce platforms Flipkart, E-Kart, and Meesho in Vijayawada as part of its drive to curb the sale and distribution of non-certified and unsafe products that violate the provisions of Quality Control Orders (QCOs).
The officials seized a large consignment of products in over 25 categories of consumer products, including electronics, LED bulbs, toys, and table fans that lacked the mandatory BIS mark.
“It has been found that several e-commerce platforms are facilitating the sale and distribution of uncertified and potentially hazardous products. These items lack valid BIS certification and are being sold in violation of the norms, posing serious risks to consumer health and safety,” Prem Sajani Patnala, Director & Head of BIS (Vijayawada), said in a statement on Tuesday.
There are currently over 800 products under BIS Mandatory Certification. The officials asked consumers to check with the BIS Care App, available on the Google Play Store and iOS (Apple App Store), to verify certification details.
