Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri just dropped the trailer of the upcoming film The Bengal Files on August 16. He is known for making controversial films like The Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files. The upcoming film is a narrative set against the tumultuous and violent political history of West Bengal. The story brings attention to the massacre of Hindus that took place following the Partition of India.

Vivek took to X (formerly Twitter) and shared the trailer with everyone. In the caption, he wrote, ‘In memory of the victims of Direct Action Day (16th August 1946), I present to you the official trailer of #TheBengalFiles — the boldest film ever on the untold story of the Hindu genocide. Upon the release of the trailer, The Bengal Files received mixed responses from the netizens; some loved it, while some said it’s a propaganda movie. One of the users wrote, ‘#TheBengalFilesTrailer is one more propaganda movie out here. Jab Constitution tha hi nahi, tab do constitution ki baat kar rahe. Musalman right maangega ye soch ke hero ko ghussa aata hai. It is fearful ki 2050 me minority PM ho sakta hai. So soultion? A muslim genocide?

The trailer of The Bengal Files was unveiled at an event held in Kolkata. However, things took a turn when a commotion broke out at the venue, leading to the event being halted.
The Bengal Files is directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri and produced by Abhishek Agarwal, Pallavi Joshi and Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri. Produced by Zee Studios, presented by Tej Narayan Agarwal & I Am Buddha. The film is part of Vivek’s Files trilogy that includes The Kashmir Files and The Tashkent Files. It is set to hit theatres on September 5.
