M. Night Shyamalan’s Remain Wraps Filming: Supernatural Thriller Release Update
M. Night Shyamalan’s Remain has just gotten a major update. This next Shyamalan film has been described as a romantic supernatural thriller, but the full plot has not been revealed yet. It is based on an idea the director conceived with author Nicholas Sparks, who wrote a novel of the same name that is set for release this October.
Remain features a leading cast including Jake Gyllenhaal, Julie Hagerty, Phoebe Dynevor, Tracy Ifeachor, Ashley Walters, Maria Dizzia, Hannah James, and Kieran Mulcare. It is currently set for release on October 23, 2026. Both Sparks and Shyamalan are producers on the film, which is also produced by Marc Bienstock, Ashwin Rajan, and Theresa Park.
As per Donald Mowat, a makeup artist, on Instagram, Remain has now finished filming. The creator talked about the “beautiful summer” he and the Remain team spent in Providence, Rhode Island in the United States. He clearly stated “that’s a wrap!”
Mowat posted this photo alongside images of two actors from the film, Gyllenhaal and Dynevor. The duo did not appear to be in costume, thus still concealing the nature of their characters.
What This Means For Remain
Remain wrapping filming sets it well on a good track to finish on time for its release next year. This will give it over 12 months in post-production after principal photography is complete. This will hopefully be enough time for the team to focus on any visual effects that a supernatural movie like that will require.
In the meantime, Shyamalan is still choosing to keep a lot secret about the film. This will change this fall, as the Sparks novel is released on October 7. While it is unknown just how identical the stories are, the novel is likely to have the same general plot as the movie, and thus its plot will have bearing on the film’s arc.
Our Take On Remain Finishing Filming
Remain will be an interesting film as it will likely step outside Shyamalan’s genre niche. While he has gone the more sci-fi and supernatural route a few times in the past, the director is better known for his work in the horror genre. Romance is definitely not a category closely associated with Shyamalan, so it will be interesting to see him step out with this film.
Curiously, the movie is still set for release close to Halloween, in prime-time spooky season. This could be a disadvantage for the movie, as it is a time when people are more apt to want to see horror movies. Even so, Remain wrapping filming is building excitement for the film as it heads into its next phase.
