A Compelling Reason to Buy Nintendo Switch 2

When the Nintendo Switch 2 launched, it was questionable whether it was actually worth getting. Of course, many people did, and it quickly became the fastest-selling console ever. That’s an amazing feat, but now that the novelty has worn off, Nintendo will need actual reasons for people to buy it beyond a fear of missing out. The best way it could do that is with impressive exclusives that are worth both the price of admission and a new console.

Unfortunately, the Switch 2 is lacking exclusives. There are simply too few games on the platform that are worth spending upwards of $449.99 just to play them. That’s not to say there are no good games on there, as Donkey Kong Bananza is a true masterpiece everyone should experience eventually. However, thus far, Nintendo hasn’t stacked the console with enough to entertain players until it releases more major first-party titles. Well, that is until now, as finally, Nintendo has given us enough reasons to buy the Switch 2.

Kirby And The Forgotten Land Is Getting Switch 2 Exclusive DLC

Star-Crossed World Adds Entire New Levels

Until recently, I really felt like Nintendo had failed the Switch 2, as it marketed it poorly, offered no meaningful innovations beyond an increase in power, and, worse still, released no exciting new games at launch. Mario Kart World is a fun game and a worthy successor to Mario Kart 8, but it is not a system seller by any means. It lacks the plethora of tracks that 8 has, and its open world, while a novel distraction, can feel too barren to be truly exciting.

As aforementioned, Donkey Kong Bananza is an impressive new release and almost as compelling as Breath of the Wild was when it launched back in 2017. Still, it and Mario Kart World alone were not good enough reasons, at least to convince me, to buy a Switch 2. However, Nintendo is changing that with a pretty substantial upgrade to one of the best Nintendo Switch games that flew under the radar when it launched in 2022: Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is getting a Switch 2 edition that, like Mario Party Jamboree before it, also comes with some DLC. In this case, it’s the Star-Crossed World expansion that adds a lot of new content to the game. For many who’ve played the original game, this is a bonus, but for those who missed out on it the first time around, which I suspect is a lot of people, this is a huge reason to finally pick up this amazing Kirby game.

Star-Crossed World Looks Amazing

It Is Completely Transformative

Star-Crossed World is one of a few Switch 2 games releasing in August, as it drops at the tail end on Thursday, August 28, 2025. It comes bundled in with the Switch 2 upgrade, so you’ll get both at the same time, but obviously need a Switch 2 to access it. The upgrade improves texture detail and performance, making it look almost like a remastered version of the original. The Forgotten Land was by no means a bad-looking game, but on the Switch 2, it looks even better.

Star-Crossed World expands upon the base game by adding branching paths that let players access entirely new areas. I’m naturally very excited about this as someone who’s beaten the main game multiple times, but for newcomers, it’s just a wealth of extra content on top of an already stellar package. It ostensibly makes the definitive version of Kirby and the Forgotten Land a much-needed Switch 2 exclusive, and thus another great reason to buy the console.

On top of the new areas, Star-Crossed World also adds new abilities, more collectibles, harder enemies, and a boss rush mode that looks as punishingly challenging as it does fun. Honestly, this is exactly the kind of DLC Nintendo has mastered over the years, and it looks set to make The Forgotten Land an infinitely better game, something I never thought possible. Of course, your mileage with the Kirby franchise may vary, but I genuinely believe this, on top of everything else, makes the Switch 2 worth it.

There’s Finally Enough Reasons To Buy A Switch 2

It Has Some Good Exclusives

Kirby and the Forgotten Land’s Switch 2 upgrade now joins an ever-growing library of exclusives, and it is making Nintendo’s new handheld all the more of an exciting prospect for newcomers. In addition to Star-Crossed Lands, fans can also get the Jamboree DLC, Mario Kart World, Fast Fusion, Donkey Kong Bananza, the upcoming Drag X Drive, and the infamous Welcome Tour, if they feel so inclined.

That’s in addition to several Switch 2 editions of popular games like BOTW, TOTK, Romancing Saga 2, Wild Hearts, and more. While it isn’t quite the exciting roster of first-party Nintendo games people were hoping for and, frankly, deserve, it is a lot of content amounting to hundreds of hours that could keep anyone entertained until the next big Nintendo game comes around. Considering the Switch 2’s best asset is its ability to make you fall in love with your Switch library all over again, it may finally be worth it for some.

Of course, ultimately, Nintendo still has a long way to go with its first-party offerings. As great as Metroid Prime 4 and Pokémon Legends: Z-A look, they’re not Switch 2 exclusives. If Nintendo wants people to keep buying the Switch 2, then it needs to announce more exclusives that actually show off the handheld’s power. Until then, as much as I feel like the Nintendo Switch 2 is worth it now, I completely understand why many are content with waiting.
