Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic conversation with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, today, where the two leaders discussed the evolving situation. The call comes a day after NSA Ajit Doval met Putin in Russia and briefed him on bilateral ties. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the two leaders reviewed progress in the bilateral agenda, and reaffirmed their commitment to further deepen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia.

Taking to X, PM Modi said, “Had a very good and detailed conversation with my friend President Putin. I thanked him for sharing the latest developments on Ukraine. We also reviewed the progress in our bilateral agenda, and reaffirmed our commitment to further deepen the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. I look forward to hosting President Putin in India later this year.”

“President Putin briefed PM on the latest developments concerning Ukraine. While thanking President Putin for his detailed assessment, Prime Minister reiterated India’s consistent position for peaceful resolution of the conflict,” said the PMO.

Prime Minister invited President Putin to India later this year for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit.

Notably, the telephonic call comes days after US President Donald Trump levied a 51% tariff on Indian goods, accusing India of funding Rusian war machines via oil purchase from Moscow.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Modi and President of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva held telephonic conversation. The Prime Minister recalled his visit to Brazil last month, during which the two leaders agreed on a framework to strengthen cooperation in trade, technology, energy, defence, agriculture, health and people-to-people ties. Building on these discussions, they reiterated their commitment to take the India-Brazil Strategic Partnership to new heights. The two leaders exchanged views on various regional and global issues of mutual interest.

On Thursday, Indian NSA Ajit Doval met Russian President Vladimir Putin, where the two discussed strengthening ties and future partnership. The Kremlin described the talks as “constructive,” underscoring the continuity of dialogue between the two countries despite shifting global alignments. NSA Doval hailed the partnership between the two nations. “We have now established very good relations, which we value very much – a strategic partnership between our countries,” said Doval.
