Agri Scam Busted: EOW Arrests Fraud Accused in Anantnag

Srinagar, Aug 2: The Economic Offences Wing (EoW), formerly Crime Branch Kashmir, on Friday arrested Shahid Rehman Bhat of Shangus, Nowgam, Anantnag in connection with a multi-crore rupee fraud case involving fake promises of supplying high-density apple plants.

Bhat, proprietor of M/S AR Trading Agri Services Pvt. Ltd., is accused of duping numerous farmers and individuals by collecting large sums under the pretext of delivering premium apple saplings. According to the EoW, not only did he fail to supply the promised plants, but he also went into hiding after taking the money.

Acting on multiple complaints and substantial bank transaction evidence, the EoW initiated an investigation and conducted raids at multiple locations in the Anantnag district. The financial trail reportedly confirms that Bhat defrauded victims of crores of rupees.

The accused had recently sought anticipatory bail, which was rejected by the Court of the Additional Sessions Judge, Anantnag.

Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
