One of the most beautiful games of the year launches tomorrow as a day-one PlayStation Plus release. The PlayStation Plus Game Catalog is constantly growing with new additions, though day-one releases are still not as common as on the Xbox Game Pass subscription. Subscribers to the PS Plus Premium and Extra tiers can access the full game catalog and play over 700 titles as long as their subscription is active.

PS Plus members are in for a special treat tomorrow, when the stunning Sword of the Sea hits the PS Plus Game Catalog on its release date. Developed by Giant Squid, Sword of the Sea will be available for free to members on August 19. This means members can experience the breathtaking world of arid desert and lush oceans for free on the day that it releases.

Sword Of The Sea Arrives On PlayStation Plus Tomorrow

Surf Through A World Without Water

Sword of the Sea is an incredible visual experience that might just be the most beautiful game of 2025. Assume control of Wraith and hop on your magic hoversword, then surf through stunning barren landscapes on a quest to return water to the world.

As you zoom through the environments, you’ll do tricks, catch air, and simply marvel at your surroundings. Although the world is covered in desert, it still offers a wide variety of beautiful locations, like tombs, massive rock structures, and ruins.

As you restore the oceans, you’ll get to watch each area bloom around you and transform into a lush oasis. Bring life back in the form of kelp forests, marine life like massive jellyfish and whales, and vibrant colors.

Sword Of The Sea Is A Gorgeous Mix Of Journey And Abzu

The Team Worked On Both Games

Giant Squid, the studio behind Sword of the Sea, is made up of several ThatGameCompany members. This might come as no surprise to fans of the indie studio, since Sword of the Sea is visually similar to the equally stunning 2012 desert exploration game, Journey.

In fact, the upcoming game seems to pull from both Journey and Giant Squid’s ocean-exploration game Abzu. Both titles feature beautiful environments and exploration, and Sword of the Sea seems to unite the desert landscapes of Journey with the marine worlds of Abzu.

Sword of the Sea releases tomorrow, on August 19, on PlayStation 5 and PC. PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members will be able to play it for free on the day it releases, as one of 2025’s most beautiful titles lands in the Game Catalog on the day of its launch.
